15%+ of WD 1.5 TB Green failed within 1 year of purchase, yes it was that bad. 2 TBs were better however we decided not to take chances with 3 TBs even though in our testing they were suprisingly quick for 5400 RPM drive.

    What was the failure mode?

Do you have enough data to perform a Weibull?

Paid £340+VAT for each of the many enterprise grade 3 TBs last week - in the meantime HDD manufactures collect insurance money and count windfall profits from increased pricing

My proper computer has a 160GB SSD and 3 x 1TB hard drives. I'm about to add another SSD for VMs.

My portable proper computer has a 512GB SSD. They are less than £500 now, certainly worth the money if you actually need the space/performance combination.

Your choice is speed or hard drive capacity. Personally I would go for a 128/256 ssd and get a usb external drive or a timecapsule.

I've just bought one of the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drives. 750GB HDD with a built in SSD cache controlled by onboard trickery so is independent of the OS. Best of both worlds.

Cant say how good it is as it hasn't arrived yet but reviews look ok: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-...1055217/review

I wouldn't pay that for an SSD, ridiculous cost for a drive!

Could not fit both in my iMac (late 2006) or could I.... Well I'll be, someone already has.

Investigative mode on. 6 years later and I'm contemplating upgrading my Mac. I'm a sinner.

started a topic 3TB HD or 1TB SSD

    3TB HD or 1TB SSD

This is for my late 2006 iMac. The last of the white models, I'm aware I could upgrade to the Aluminium model for less but I don't like the colour.

The SSD £700 and the hard drive £88

I'm thinking it has to be the HD... at that price, surely.

Working...
