I heard something worse on Radio 2 a few weeks back. There is a bungee jump in (I think) New Zealand, where they have a 'special treatment' for cocky or arrogant jumpers.

They wait until you have decided to go, and just reached the point of no return, then a man standing at the side of you produces a spare length of bungee with a big clip on the end and shouts "WHOA...NOT YET!!!" just as you fall off the platform.

    B****rds!!

That is the dozy croc, the intelligent one would be sitting slightly off to one side so as not to get crushed by falling tourists.....

    Maybe they're not into scat.

Plenty of people have found out the colour of adrenaline without the cord breaking.

The bit about crocs in the water is a bit misleading. They are there, but they stay in the slower moving parts of the river. ..

Lucky girl. As an Australian she'll now be able to spend the rest of her life propping up the bar in the pub telling tales of 'when I wrestled a croc with both my feet tied together' while downing stubbies of Vic Bitter. Along with all the other Aussies who tell you the same tale.

Exactly N.Lad. Also Africa is the most corrupt continent on Earth, well last time I checked.

Trusting an African with a frayed bungee cord is like trusting a person in our own country with a raincoat on, standing beside a van with "free candy" painted on it.

The bit about crocs in the water is a bit misleading. They are there, but they stay in the slower moving parts of the river. When we rafted it we were told we were safe from them if we fell out in the rapids and most of the pools but there were a couple of spots where it was not safe. We spotted 2 6-7 footers whilst rafting.

In the clip it seems to be the junction not the chord that gives way.

Glad it wasn't me. Wonder if she found out what colour adrenaline is.

Very lucky girl. Hitting water from an 11 metre free fall after accelerating from the platform would probably be fatal if the surface hadn't been broken by the current.

If this type of incident was a bit less rare they would do well to inform the potential victims of how to get to the side of the river when trapped in a current, where normal swimming isn't going to be that effective especially with legs tied.

The method I've seen that seems most effective is to swing your arms to the side while doing a barrel roll so you're paddling sideways. This draws you to the side of the river and hopefully into an eddy where you can get onto the river bank.

Worth remembering if you're ever in a real life remake of Deliverance.

That site has been operational for 10 years and this is the first incident ever. Having been there, I think approach is no different from other operations of this nature.

No offense, but look up the odds of bungie cords snapping. Then russian roulette, if you're the first one to take a turn, it's still a 1 in 6 odds or maybe a little more depending on your handgun choice ...
Thanks for explaining all that in such helpful detail.

I thought it might be a joke, but couldn't be sure.
