Exactly. The electorate will see that a minister who commits gross misconduct in office including alleged sexual harassment still keeps all the perks of office. It will just add to the image of pigs with snouts in the trough. Tony's teflon is wearing off ....

Token union man, plain and simple. To be honest, I think it's far better he's just paid to do nothing than be left with his powers to concrete over the south-east.

Downing Street is insisting Mr Prescott has not been demoted and confirmed he would keep his grace and favour accommodation in recognition, it said, of his heavy workload as deputy prime minister and chairing Cabinet committees.

But Shadow Chancellor George Osborne attacked Mr Prescott as a waste of public money.

"John Prescott loses his department but keeps the trappings of office - including the car, the salary, and the two grace and favour homes," said Mr Osborne.

"Add it all up, and the taxpayer is going to be paying more than a quarter of a million pounds a year.

If you're looking for ways to cut waste in government, you can start with John Prescott."

Labour MP Kate Hoey said she was "disappointed" Mr Prescott had kept his job, adding "people will want to ask what on earth he's going to get paid for, what's he going to actually do."

He's THE link between Labour and the unions. Labour needs this and all the support they can get.

Quite extraordinary. Still, makes a change to not have a silver-tongued politician.....

Guess it keeps all the PR types busy too.... :-)
