Go and speak to a solicitor who specialises in Employment Law. If you're talking sums of over a year's salary it has got to be worth spending £200/300 to maximise the deal. You can probably claim it back off your employer anyway. If they've tried it on, a letter from a Solicitor should make them think a bit.

Realistically, I probably have no option to take the package. It's tuff after 30 years in the same company. I'll get about 1.3 times salary in my pocket after tax I get. The sickner is that the package a year ago was significantly better and basically means that I've worked the last year for nothing! How's contracting for telecomms people?

Mick, (actually the point of this thread was looking for funny stories, rather than giving serious advice ) but since you do have a problem:

    Sorry to hear it mate.

So my advice would be to take the redundancy and look for a job straight away.

    ..and good luck.

I recently went though the same process of being scored. The result was that around 120 people got the boot!

For your amusement I am happy to share the url of a website which was created to show the various scores !

    link

I am not saying which one is me!!

    MickKnipfler,

If the package is good, I'd suggest you take it.

    1) They don't want you there and while you may be able to force them to keep you do you really think it would be a nice place to work?

    2) You could well get more out of them through a tribunal. But it will take a very long time.

    3) Depending on the industry you work in you may find that "word gets around". This can make it very hard to find new work.

This is not meant to sound as if I support them, it is based on what I (with very limited information) think would be best for you. I am not a lawyer and I disclaim any responsibility for any harm (financial or otherwise) to you, your family or pets as a result of following my advice

The closest to violence I got was some chap who tried to knock my phone off the desk. It got tangled on his arm which rather spoiled his moment.
You should have landed one on him, just for fun, then claim he went beserk and you simply acted in self defence.

Mailmann, are you talking to me?

They tell me that the VR package is good by industry standards and if I took them to tribunial, I would get less. I believe it's a stitch up

Anyone plant one on your chin?
No. I did get some rather pathetic threats mostly along the lines of:
The company will fall apart without me
    I'll email Watchdog about you
I'll sell stories about the company to the press

The closest to violence I got was some chap who tried to knock my phone off the desk. It got tangled on his arm which rather spoiled his moment.

Few years ago a friend of mine in Aus, got sacked without notice because of a joke email he got sent (Nothing major) when people were starting to flap about company email policies.

His manager didn't like him and he was about to leave anyway, I think they figured that he was an easy target and got wind that he was leaving. Thing they didn't figure, was his old man own's a top 100 company in Aus and is filthy rich, immediately got the company lawyers on the case - would have loved to have been there to see the complete creaming they got and the brown trouser feeling his manager must have had when he found out he'd picked on the wrong guy I do believe he wasn't with the company much after that ...

    Not really much to say.

It was a job and I was the one paid to do it. Some people expected it, some got angry, some got emotional.

To be honest, it was the ones who expected it and were armed with a list of "demands" that were the most work.

It was actually easier than making people redundant where it was not their fault that they were out of a job.

Perhaps you would like to share some of your experiences with us PRC.

We're not here to gloat over other peoples misfortunes, or sneer at people more inadequate than ourselves,

    ...we are really concerned.

I'm getting made redundant after 30 years. I've been given a VR option and been advised to take it. Apparently I've been marked (scored) but they won't tell me how or what the scores are. They said they would do that next week and at the end of the meeting the VR offer would be withdrawn....what happened to right of appeal?

I've never been sacked. I have sacked quite a few people in my Permie days though.

    Does that count?

PRC in do NOT return to your desk mode.
