This happened to me once, about a year after I'd left permiedom. I called them and let them know; it turned out they'd used an old back up tape of the HR records when paying out salaries (or something like that). They were very grateful, offered me a free couple of days training on one of their courses and contacted me a few months later asking if I was available to do some work; I've done a couple of contracts for them since. Apparently a few other people were mistakenly paid too and they first recieved a nice letter asking for the money to be returned, then got progressively nastier letters from lawyers until one of them ended up in court having to pay back with interest plus rather hefty legal costs. Glad I was honest.

I had similar in a permie job a while ago. £1000 extra in my pay one month for some sort of comission.
I worked out what it was, there was a guy with the same name as me and he was due a finders fee (so he told me) for recommending someone to the company. Anyway, told payroll about three times, this guy got his £1000 but they never took mine back. In the end I got pissed off with phoning them and they never chased me.
Same with current agency. Overpaid me by a day months ago. I told them straight away so they said they'd pay me less one day next month. They forgot so I reminded them, which has happened last 3 months now. Not wasting my time anymore if they dont want it back.

Not unusual. I'm involved in some 'downsizing' at current client. One of the issues raised from previous downsizing excercises was the tale of some lass that was made redundant, and was then paid for the next 4 years.
HR are not the brightest team in any business.

Keep it and keep your head down for 6 years. After that it is yours.

I got paid for three months after I left.
I did have a three month notice period though and I left permiedom with mutual agreement from the company.
Meant I was bound to get paid from themselves while enjoying the contract money at the same time.
Very, very happy days - paid for the car

Ignorance is not a defense in the eyes of HMRC and the law.
Ring you ex-employer up and sort it out. It will be a lot messier later if you get found out.

you actually have the cash as well? ...Originally posted by TraceRacing View PostI left permiedom at the end of last month....today I got my October payslip...
I guess I have to pay them back...
Do I tell them the error of their ways as I'd like to contract for them in the future or keep quiet and hope they don't find out?

When I finally made the jump from permie to contracting, my last permie company continued to pay my pension contributions for 11 months.
I noticed after 3 months as I wanted to move my pension into a SIPP, so it took them 8 months to sort out, with me continually phoning and emailing their finance guy.

You're just an employee. If they paid you it, you must be owed it, right?

I'd just assume it's some sort of pro-rated performance bonus and see what happens next month. If anyone asks just say you didn't really notice that amount of money in your account.Originally posted by TraceRacing View PostI left permiedom at the end of last month....today I got my October payslip...
