I'm sure that's changed. I remember a rapid search replace job a few years ago to cure that. Still doesn't justify changing a date parameter to a string parameter to get a null value in tho.

Had a quick google looks like it's still an issue. Guess it's not something they can just fix, because so much code would break.

Actually, Oracle does treat empty strings as nulls. It's tulipe. (Or it least it used to - don't know if things have changed)

What I find worrying is that it seems he has to do some actual work (shudder) for that money.

It works out at 25k(Euros). There are some manual feeds into the system and ongoing 'support/dev'. Client kept shaving off automation costs and so ergo support costs went up. Pretty cool product actually, ETL is a bit cludgy.

Surely the holy grail is ongoing support agreements. 2 days a month year after year to support a system that never needs supporting because it was so well built and documented in the first place.
