They're doing it so that when they need you to work late you'll feel obliged to for nothing as everyone is so jolly nice.

Tell them to stick the cream cakes and chinese up their arses unless they're paying overtime.

yeah, that's usually the point. If you go off-site for lunch you might take longer etc etc.

Worked with a couple of clients who had a free canteen and even a free bar. It actually made things more productive because everyone would go to the canteen and talk over various issues.
