I've often wondered if that interference due to rain is caused by the water splashing against the dish and interfering with the reflection to the receiver or just due to the volume of water the air between house and satelite.
If it is the former then a simple cover over the dish (which doesn't block the line of sight to the satelite) should fix the problem.
more likely to be the clouds I reckon. Depending on the location of the sattelite, the storm doesnt even have to be overhead
