Jack Hughes, producer of The Yeomen of the Guard in 1956 at the Winter Gardens Theatre, Hoylake.

    I can see the connection.

If anyone downgrades the US credit rating from AAA I suspect we might find the head of that credit rating agency has suddenly and without warning decided to commit suicide. Probably stab themselves 50 times in the heart and neck and then hang themselves etc.

    Back on topic.

If Greece defaults, it will be the economical equivalent of a parakeet farting quietly in some distant corner of a rain forest. The markets know how fooked Greece is, and have priced it in.

Now, if Italy were to hit the buffers ........ And this is where the real fear is.

The US will never default. Can't happen. They are and have been in technical default for about 18 months, and just keep moving the goalposts of what defines technical default. S&P may downrate them, which everyone says is bad, but I can't see if being the financial armaggedon that people are worried about.

I've worked in Germany, Switzerland, the City and the regions. And without doubt the brightest people worked in the City - its a magnet for the talented from all over the world.
And most of them loved London for its cosmopolitanism, history, parks, galleries, museums, pubs, clubs, live music, street markets etc etc.
Don't get me wrong unlike most I've a soft spot for Germany. I think we coukld learn a few lessons from them.
But the only German city I've been in that has that feeling of life to it is Berlin. Other cities I've lived in or visited in the German/Swiss world: Basle , Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich seem provincial by comparison: they're just too sterile.

Yet the Yanks I know have been complaining for several years that their education system is being dumbed down.

    Agree with the rest though.
