Is there an old fart's guide to facebook?

What is it about? I signed up once when I was thinking of going to a CUK thing in London then never bothered to add any details.

Now I've suddenly started getting invites to be "friends", mostly with foreign sounding types, not sure what sex. Latest is from an Aleandra. "People I may know" all seem to be Italians. Should I click "confirm friend request" or will I get conned somehow? If I don't, could I be missing out on chance of of some webcam hanky panky?

Short guide from some less ancient and with it person most welcome.
