Depends which motorway you're going down. If you're going down the A5 you might as well stay in Darmstadt! There are 2 Maritim hotels just off the motorway plus a cheaper one just long from them. Further in the town is the Welcome which is quite nice (if the weather is nice you can sit outside and watch the sunset plus you're over the road from the Schloss which has a beer garden in it which is just over the road from the market place which has brewery which is round the corner from the Bockshaut which is a traditional German restaurant with hotel.) There's also the Ibis and Etap and numerous other chains along with small family places. If Frankfurt is you're choice then as you turn off to go into the city pass the Messe then there are loads of hotels ranging from cheap (Ibis, etc.) to expensive (Radisson, Marriot, Maritim, etc.)

We stayed at the Radisson, former spa hotel. Wiesbaden is a beautiful, not to busy, old city. Would highly recommend it.
Speaking of hotels and guest houses, Mrs, Mr and Mini Scooter are taking the train down to Salzburg this weekend. Anyone know of a good place to stay? Will probably default to the radisson.
It is just outside city centre as we want a hotel with car parking facilities. As you are going by train, presume you want to stay in City Centre - if so look at Hotel StadtKrug and also Hotel Gablerau. We have stayed in both before, very traditional and not too expensive, although = always booked !

Why not drive to Koblenz, then drive down the Rhine gorge, towards the Loreley.
Loads of cheap, but nice hotels in the villages on the Rhine.
Koblenz is on the way to Frankfurt just off the A3. Then ride down the Rhine doesn't really matter which side and there are ferries which take you across. Eventually you end up in Rudersheim and then to Wiesbaden.
You can whip across to the Rhine from any turn off on the A3 towards Frankfurt.
Also to the North of Frankfurt (the Taunus) you can head up into the hills where you'll find very pretty villages and cheap hotels, that would be A66, then A661 to the end and you could try Kronberg, Königstein, or head up the mountain to Schmitten.Last edited by BlasterBates; 5 July 2011, 11:22.

Staying In Frankfurt For The Night
We are driving down to Austria and Italy at the end of the month and wil be stopping off in Frankfurt for the night on the way through.
Can anyone recommend any cheap but comfy b&b / hotel, near the town centre and not too far off the motorway (E35) ?
