I fail to see why you are getting excited. Other than the fact it looks like a c64, it's not one. And while it was ok in its day, why would anybody want to spend their time playing manic miner these days. It's tulip

    Commodore USA
    Introducing Commodore OS

Feeling nostalgic? Commodore OS will also be classic Commodore compatible, able to run classic 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit era software via emulation. A beautiful user interface allows you to easily peruse games for the Commodore PET, Vic20, C16, C64, C128 and AMIGA. No need to bother with floppy disks, as many games can be legally puchased and downloaded from the internet directly on to your computer.

All our machines will also provide optimum software flexibility with the optional extra to run Windows software either from a dual boot menu at start up, or seamlessly integrated within Commodore OS itself.
    From the Store pages:

Units come with the Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) operating system on disk ready to install.

Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available.
and the top of the range model is $1195

I like the look of it. Hopefully the keyboard is a proper one and not a mushy rubber dome job.

Is the C64 OS running under an emulator or does it have an actual 8 bit processor running in there as well?

The machine is a net-top spec computer which comes with a 1.8Ghz 64-bit dual core D525 Atom processor, Nvidia ION2 onboard graphics, WiFi, Hard Disk and an optional built-in DVD or Blu-ray player. It is planned to ship initially with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition. In addition to this, Commodore USA claims they are also developing their own Linux derivative called Commodore OS, that along with a classic games package, they plan to ship out to early adopters. There will be no hardware compatibility with the original C64, with software compatibility provided through the use of an emulator.

Commodore 64 will ship again next week

    Linky

This reincarnation of the C64 comes with a modern set of hardware including a 1.8GHz Intel Atom D525 processor, space for up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and Nvidia Ion graphics.

All this is packed into a spitting image of the original C64 from the 1980s, including the traditional beige coloured plastic and chunky black keys.

There are an Ethernet port, multiple USB ports, a card reader, WiFi, optional Blu-ray drive and the ability to output full HD 1080p video to a TV or monitor. You can relive 8-bit games and install Windows or an alternative operating system and keep the C64 operating system as well.

Working...
