I put an offer on an £800K house near Leatherhead too and that was also guzumped the same day.
Apparently hordes of foreigners, such as Russians and Chinese, are currently buying property in London and nearby.
I imagine all this unrest in the Middle East has also prompted well-heeled buyers from those countries to want to buy a potential bolt hole. Can't blame them, if they can.
As for the rest of the UK I'm clueless but I've just been told that the desirable family bungalow in Bucks that was worth £500,000 in 2007 is now worth a minimum of £650,000. So different places definitely have different prices.
What _family_ would want to live in a bungalow, unless they were all in wheelchairs or something?
In northern Ireland the bottom will probably be reached in another year or so (60%-70% off the 2007 peak price).
