Newspapers are always banging on about house prices. One week a newspaper is shouting about how much prices are rising, then a few weeks later another newspaper (or maybe even the same one) is shouting about how much prices are falling. IMHO it's just lazy journalism. When they can't find anything better to write about they just bang out a story about house prices.

Each company who has a vested interested in houses commisions a survey, they send the results to the newspapers and as you say some lazy journalist writes a story and publishes it. They never seam to question the survey or the results.
