The guy was a genius writer, got a bookshelf full of his stuff and they are all gems, especially his war diaries - anyone who hasn't read them should get on Amazon immediately!
He wasn't right in the head though but the diaries describe how that all came about, very moving descriptions on how war can destroy a person mentally.
