1. The 30 year estimate might be based on current known oil reserves, hence why it's always 30 years as the years tick by as more reserves are found. Having said this I was told in the mid-80's we had 50 years left. based on this I predict we have 35 years left but by that time things might become dire
2 Oil is actually man made and it's all been a con? It's purified and liquified poo?
3. Little green men keep us topped up with oil hence why it's always 30 years

Look at the end of the day, it's all a big con. No doubt when the oil runs out, BP will say 'hey look we've got some special process that makes engines run on salt water and BTW we own the sea! Oh and it's going to run out in 30 years'
You know it's going to happen!

It can last more than 30 years if you cut consumption of oil every year.

Then I read about the economic equilibrium about the cost of recovering oil from reservoirs as a function of oil price and lo and behold, oil a plenty as can be observed over the last 20 years or so!
Peak oil, my arse.

Windmills and blackouts all round for the UK chaps? Tally ho, eco-loons!

The good news is that it will cut our global warming emissions.
We'll have to burn trees instead.

We shouldn't completely write off cold fusion, or something of that ilk.
Everyone scoffs that it was just a Fleisch in the Pons But a recent and highly regarded ebook on solid state physics I downloaded the other day, makes clear that many non-kook physicists in that field are fairly convinced something unusual was going on in the Fleischmann-Pons experiments and if so might be exploited once properly understood.
I'll give a reference, and some quotes, at the w/end if anyone is interested.

This is the future:
ITER - the way to new energy
Looks cool, like proper technology should (Concorde etc.).
