1. The 30 year estimate might be based on current known oil reserves, hence why it's always 30 years as the years tick by as more reserves are found. Having said this I was told in the mid-80's we had 50 years left. based on this I predict we have 35 years left but by that time things might become dire

Look at the end of the day, it's all a big con. No doubt when the oil runs out, BP will say 'hey look we've got some special process that makes engines run on salt water and BTW we own the sea! Oh and it's going to run out in 30 years'

... but rapidly converting to hydro-electricity with all the rivers they have in an effort to keep the rest of the world happy with green issues. They also have 80% of the rare earths needed to make rechargeable batteries. Thats what I call a super power.

It takes a lot of work to get it out though, compared to sicking a tube in the ground and letting it shoot out all over the place.

Exactly, in Texas back in the early 1900s you only had to walk across an oil field in spiked shoes to leave a row of little gushers behind you.
