I wouldn't comment about the "near bottom" economy but it's correct that international investments are huge compared to imports/exports - it means that interest rates influence the exchange rates more than imports and exports do.

Can you provide some indicators in support of your theories?Originally posted by Clog II The AvengerThe pound is high , not because of the economy. The economy is near the bottom in Europe.
Pls. Give indicators that are generally accepted, such as GDP, ROIs, Stock Exchange indexes or similars..

B-locks
There is only one reason for the UK Pound to be so high.
The pound is high , not because of the economy. The economy is near the bottom in Europe.
It is not our exports, one of the worst in Europe.
The reason is that the UK interest rates are higher than the USA and the Euro area. Therefore investors will keep their money in the UK and gain loads of interest.
WE will have to pay for this in the future. It is a way of the government making it’s thick electors think that they are well off when in fact they are living on their own credit.
If interest rates drop, or foreigners pull out money from the UK, the result will be no B&Q and Sundays with your credit card.

I can't say what's your biggest lack of knowledge. Economics or finance?Originally posted by MailmanActually...seeing as 90% of all things worth anything have already been outsourced to India its only a matter of time before the banks wake up and realise they can do the same job of creating money in India for a fraction of the cost of doing that here in Blighty
Mailman
Sure, Mailman has invented the recipe for creating wealth. Let's create money, it's cheaper here in South America or Africa and let's sell it to the UK.

Seem to recall that a decade or so back our invisibles were only a very small part of our exports. They can't have grown that much to compensate for the loss in manufacturing. Mailman is right to wonder. I think it's all slight of hand.
