The North Pole is the centre of the world. The edge of the world is the Antarctic which is a militarised zone. Look at the UN flag.
After the end of the second world war, the Allies were going to declare the world flat and FDR was going to be President of the Illuminati government. When FDR died, then the plan fell apart because Truman refused to participate. However, the flag design remained.

Likelyhood is that they only show land masses. At what size should a changeable and moving lump of ice count to show? You can type any 90, x location in Google Earth to see the sea at the north pole, where x is between -180 and +180. [Then type -90, 0 and prepare for your pupils to constrict].
