    They want to run the ICE trains but the French are throwing every spanner they can find in the works one of which was that trains have to be a ridiculous minimum length. To solve this the Germans simply attached two trains to each other.

    This means that the trains will serve two different routes at the some time which resulted in the French then trying to find another vaguely plausible excuse.
    SNCF have a few shares in Eurostar ...

    It would be great if it happens though. Going to Paris first is a real pain for a lot of cross-Europe journeys.

    When I used to fly with QueasyJet, yes they were rubbish, but if you booked far enough in advance and took advantage of their sales you could make a killing. I once did 10 return trips between Geneva and Liverpool for £450 all in. They were pretty much on time leaving Liverpool each monday morning and pretty much always late leaving Geneva each Friday evening. But for £22.50 including txes etc, I thought that was pretty good. Unfortunately once the winter fares stopped I had to resort to the Sunday evening departure from Manchester and all through summer they wanted around £150 to £200 for each return.

    Just googled that;

    ICE Dream: High-Speed Train from Germany Rolls into London - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International

    That would be very convenient for me. It's about 1.5 hours on the train from Arnhem (40 mins drive from home) to Cologne, then one fast train all the way to London; would be brilliant. It's about 600 kms from Cologne to London; enough time for a good liquid lunch on the train.

    That train could actually be an airport killer; if you really can go from the centre of Cologne to centre of London in about 2.5 hours then flying from about half of western Germany and the east of Holland or Belgium becomes a complete waste of time.

    The run ICE trains from Zurich, very nice. But they have a bit of an old cruise liner feel about the decor.

    £20 Hotel cancellation fee (the cannot change the booking, I have to cancel and rebook)

    They can only do part of this over the phone, and part of this online.

    Easy Jest still owe me money; I booked and paid for a flight at Gatwick and was ticketed … for a non existent flight. I turned up on the day only to be told “It's your fault. You must have booked it yourself on the Internet and put the wrong information into the computer”

    Of course, you could get the Eurostar to Paris, get the metro to Gare de Lyon, eat here then get a metro to Gare de l'Est and then a sleeper train to Munich, wake up in time for breakfast in one of those German bakeries that seems to want to turn everyone into a chocolate flavoured blimp, then walk to't Königshof for a few hours sleep, drink a large local brew and then have a 7 course dinner in what must be one of the finest restaurants in Germany, right there in your hotel.

    It gets better than that. The seat you booked will have been purchased at a rate which is lower than they are currently charging - by giving up the seat (and paying to do so) you are allowing them to resel it an oa plane that is fairly full, so at a higher cost. Pretty efficient to me!

    Isn't that where the 'planes crash?

    Get the train.

    Gotta be better than SleazyJet. You probably wouldn't survive.
