Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in second splat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
and Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Pretty accurate for me apart from I drive.

Over my contracting career I've had all sorts of commutes. Some involved just walking down the stairs and wiggling the mouse, some 4am starts on a Monday to catch a plane.

If you like money and interesting work, it's worth it. I'd much rather work from home all the time if I could get it. If I can't, maybe I'll need to dust off the passport/car/train/camel/snowmobile etc.

The bit I really like about contracting is the time off.

I stay at my mates down here so it's pretty easy going. An early start - because Virgin will not allow you to use the free tickets on any of the other trains out other than the 5:05 and the prices do not come down on any of the other trains. To be honest, if I was able to use the other trains then a 2 hour train journey would not be too difficult. I then get the train out to Beaconsfield where I keep my other car and drive to my mates house. I commute from his to London and knock off at 4 on a Friday and travel back having a few beers on the way. It's only Sunday nights that are the problem. A bit of working from home wouldn't go a miss though. It's certainly easier than my weekly commute to Geneva!

I've been doing this for the bulk of the past 10 years, this one is easier because I'm on the train. I used to drive down, leaving at 5am on a Monday moring. That was grim!

It's swings and roundabouts. Don't forget that DP has to work from home and can't ever leave the house for more than 15 minutes in case his wife unchains herself and makes a break out of the cellar window.

    Total madness.

I'll stick to a mixture of 15 minute commutes and working from home thanks.
