Whoever comes to this country should be allowed to follow their religious and cultural customs within certain parameters. What are these parameters? Hard to say but I would venture that anything that is at odds with a centuries old established order would be outside of them. Imams bellowing from minarets and women dressing up in burqas are outside of these parameters, as is the ritual slaughter of animals.

I am half German, half Irish, both sides of my family had to change names 'to fit in'.

As a corollary to this, I lived and worked in Brazil for several years - one of the most diverse nations on earth. Great people and I made a lot of friends there.I'd have no beef with areas of my home town resembling Ipanema (some chance) if a load of Brazilians migrated there. I wouldn't, on the other hand, be very keen to see it looking like Karachi. There you go, terrible isn't it but if that's what makes you a racist then you must be right about me.
