If you can't stop a sneeze on the high street, always go OINK! OINK! It scares the sh* out of people.
Stay in hotel? Street hawkers? Can't be that bad. I recall a poor but reasonably decent city in 1971 apart from all the multitudinous car scrap yards in the suburbs and you could also buy a used toothbrush on street stalls. Never accept an offer to go and have a drink in a scrapyard though.
PS Or walk the backstreets in a mini skirt. I made that mistake once.
Very good journey down to Heathrow - stayed overnight before departing for the airport on Friday.
Plane looked full and booked my seat online so all good.
Still feeling fluey but flight arrived on time.
Had to queue for a '£10 visa' to get into Turkey - then queue again for passport control - I went through the NATO member countries channel - followed by some Russians????
I arranged a car transfer from the Hotel - glad I did - Friday night traffic, you think London's bad!
Got checked in - free upgrade which was nice.
Beechams lemon flu powder then went to bed...
This morning had a walk around - near the Bospherous loads of restaurants and bars built under the bridge.
I was expecting to get bothered on the street by hawkers etc - but I adopted my 'scowl' - the one I normally use for Chuggers - it usually works...
Except - someone said "You look like a professor" - to which I repied "I know - now go away" -
Walked around for 3 hours then back to the hotel - still feeling pretty crap!
Nice city - probably wouldn't want to live here!
Seasons Greetings...

The ferries to the Asian side are cheap and worth a trip. Also there are are good network of up to date date busses going to such places as Troy. You can buy almost anything in Istanbul at a cheap price.
