My favourite announcement is the one that tells me at every boot that the HP2400 printer is disconnected. It's not only disconnected, it's in the tip 3 years ago in a country 800 miles away. Thanks for keeping me informed.

That is the crux of the matter. MS seems to think we enjoy installing software. I have only done one "wipe and reinstall from scratch" in the eight and a half years I have owned Macs, and I only did that because I wanted to, not because it was necessary. (I will note that I got a surprising amount of disk space back, presumably down to clutter left behind from software I had tried but never ended up using.)Originally posted by Ignis Fatuus View PostOK I can "mount" it. Or USB sticks. I am really not interested in seeing an announcement that a driver has been installed and I can now use a USB stick. On a Mac it simply appears and I can use it straight away.Originally posted by Ignis Fatuus View PostAnd don't get me started on scanners

I've tried it. I really wanted to like it. But there were too many little things that just didn't work out of the box. I absolutely despise using an advertising tag line, but (IME) the Mac does "just work". I can't remember anything that didn't work first time on it.Originally posted by Cliphead View PostTake any suitable hardware and install Linux. Big improvement.
Example: external DVD player: on my Windows Thinkpad, it played DVDs but had no sound. On the Mac it just worked. On Ubuntu it didn't even recognise it was attached until I "mounted" it.

Funny. Actually I'm serious. Mac not perfect, Apple a distasteful company, but Mac+OSX better than other computers I've used. Would love to find better still.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View Post

Mine was cancelled and got put on the wait list for the next flight - 2 seats and 20 pax waiting
Needless to say I did not make the cut but BA then transfered me to SAS where I got upgraded to the front.
Still I would have prefered to be home 5 hours earlier.....

Gah! Stuck in Vienna after BA cancelled the flight.
Bought a ticket back to Heathrow via Berlin but that's now 2 hours delayed.
Looks like a weekend of travelling and more hotels beckons
