99,000 isn't what I had in mind when he said 10s of thousands. Even that number is a million more per decade. The other alternative is to try to get people to leave.

“It is difficult to see how a limit on Tier 2 can make a substantial contribution towards reducing net migration unless intra-company transfers are included,” warns today’s MAC report.

But Metcalf also made clear that while David Cameron has already exempted the 22,000 extra specialists and managers a year who came through intra-company transfers, their numbers would have to be strictly controlled instead by raising minimum salary level or qualifications to produce same effect: "There is more than one way to skin a cat," said Metcalf, who added that 2,500 skilled migrants were coming into Britain each month via this route.
Let's hope it's salary, we all know Bob's have a list of degrees as impressive as Minestrone's. I mean there must be some correlation surely.

I should have written CBI above, not CPI.

The Migration Advisory Committee's report was published today, which has prompted other press releases and announcements. Anyone fancy making heads or tails of it? On the surface it sounds as if it recommends cuts in numbers, 'tighter' than currently in force, but who knows. Especially odd as the CPI (anti-contractor and anti UK employee) welcomes it. The recommendations seem at odds with what Ca.moron and Vince want. What the government actually does isn't going to be known until 'before Christmas'.
