I sit in an office with some contractors and everytime I try have a conversation some bloody woman keeps putting her ipod on so loud every one can hear it. I can't hear my flaming conversation so I have to speak up and end up almost shouting down the phone.

These kids and their ipods are a right bloody pain.

Yep, I'm a tall berk who doesn't like talking on the phone.

I'm the same. Phone's always on silent and I HATE it when someone has the audacity to call me.

I had a variation on that - a couple of us had desks by a security door in a restricted area. There was an internal phone and directory of everyone in the room just outside the door, yet 99% of visitors would knock on the door and try to persuade us to open it.

We got quite bloody minded about ignoring them.

That works up to a point but I keep getting interrupted (not least by the the lost tossers who have set off to meet some git without finding out where they sit or look like and some git who can't work a phone after specsavers) and give up in the end.

A couple in the same room started to talk an this distracted the guy, who turned angrily and said 'Excuse me can you keep it down you can see I'm on the phone!' he then turned back to the speaker and said 'sorry some idiots in the background' and carried on booming. The guy I was talking too quietly in the corner raised his eyebrows. Nobody in the room could work!!!!

Frankly I would have told the guy to go and get a ******* room but all of his colleagues were scared of him.
Similarly I got a desk next to a South African Bint at one gig who spent all day gossiping very loudly to her pals on the phone. One day a quiet and mild-mannered techy bod and colleague of mine who clientco had seen fit to seat in another part of the building came to see me - we were having a quiet discussion when she pipes up "excuse me - are you two having a meeting?" - and asked us to do it elsewhere.

For me this is the downside to contracting - having to put up with twats at clientco in a way I wouldn't if they were real colleagues. I console myself with the money and the fact that I won't be here for ever, but it really narks me at times.
