Rates are ok in banking, I am due to renew now and will be waiting to see if they try to drop the rate. Nothing mentioned as yet although they are looking to extend.
Thing is some agencies are a dodgy bunch.

Although looks nice I was very suspicious of this ad as it is way over the best rate I have ever seen for my area.

    £750 a day anyone?

Oh right 350 quid, phew that's alright then.

Is the market as sh*te as this rate seems to indicate?
You'd be better off permie at that rate.

Or, emigrate to Sydney. The rates are good here. With current exchange rate you can earn 700-800 GBP/day doing that sort of work. There is lots of work around too.

I'd say its just IB or C++, or could these just be a couple of exceptions from opportunist clientco's?

I'm in infrastructure and rates haven't really dropped since about 18-20 months ago.
Although the market has been fairly quiet in the run up to the govt spending review I'm successfully negotiating the tulip rates up by at least £50 per day, and still getting my CV put forward for roles.
Makes a nice change for once

    Could not comment on IT.

Nonetheless in my own industry I've enjoyed very little competition over the years.

Now all of a sudden there's several applications for a role I would not normally enquire. I don't know if it's chancers or real competition, but then again I would not trust an agent as far as I could throw them.
