I'm not saying I necessarily agreed with all the campaigners students used to affiliate themselves to but at least they had some fire in their bellies.
Todays students were fully assimilated corporate whores even before they entered puberty.
I blame Simon Cowell... and Disney.

In the first few days we were given a talk by the SU leader who told us not to pay our poll tax and ended with shouting "an end to this Thatcher scum!" again to much bewilderment to all us 18 years olds more worried about being away from home and having to do our own laundry etc. than radical politics.

I found it interesting enough, mostly to try to understand these types who you come across at sixth form and uni who are desperately latching on to every vaguely radical idea about. Standard teenage rebellion stuff but you didn't ever want to get talking to one of them. I could never be arsed myself since it didn't look like it would enhance my chances of scoring.
I was wondering however if this sort of energy and fire does push them to achieve in other ways, like him or not, he is doing pretty well these days.
