Of course a large part of the increase is because of the reduced tax take, which is due to the recession, which is arguably the fault of the bankers. So although it may not be bailout costs per se, it's still the fault of the spekulants.

I used to pay about £90 a month for my travelcard when I lived in zone 3, and about £50 when I lived in zone 1.

I think the total passengers must mean total journeys - i.e. tourist comes to London and buys £5.60 travelcard and makes 10 tube trips in the day = 56p a go.

Conclusion - overpaid Londoners charge honest visitors far more than they pay themselves by using massive discounts

But to second part, yes the "visitor" rates are just a total rip off, zone 1 ticket only: Cash, £4.00 Oyster: £1.80

Which is why i tell anyone coming to london even for just a day to buy a card, one return journey you make up the initial outlay

Who said that they didn't have qualifications? I was pointing out that limited qualifications is not a barrier to entry like it is with teaching or nursing. back at you!

Partly true but there are plenty of people from outside London that have Oyster cards and use them when they are in town and there is nothing to stop anyone else doing that.

The downside of those cards of course is that Mayor Boris then knows your every move.

Ah, that's a travelcard.. OK fair enough.

Not sure whether the 3 million per day quoted by TfL is total journeys or distinct passengers tho.
