Look at the damage to it. That is not a 30mph aftermath.
It doesn't elaborate in the story as to why they were in it but the fact it was waiting for recovery obviously leads you to think it was nothing more than a joy ride. Last I knew joy riding in someone elses car at speed was illegal.
