to me it looks like two men in black tights with their body trapped in a single odd shaped box

It's like something out of a futuristic sci-fi film. Waaaay in the future. I've only seen clumsy robots before now, nothing with motor control that advanced. It's so fast, it looks abominably biological. Or as you say, freaky.
