    Can't help but think it would be useful to know whether it is between the middle and the top or the middle and the bottom. A few more iterations like that and we'd locate it no problem.

    I think crude is mostly composed of fractions that are less dense than sea water (it floats), though I believe there are mechanisms that can cause it to sink. Were BP spraying it with sand?
