What happened was this; for the first time in a while I decided to cycle to the station and take my bicycle on the train with me. Well, as we heard the distant rumble of the twin Mayback engines that announced that our journey was shortly to begin, I was informed by a member of staff that I wouldn't be permitted on board with my cycle as there would be no room for it. You see, the thing is I ride a recumbant bicycle and I feel incensed that us recumbant riders should be discriminated in such a mean spirited fashion.

I'm not at work today as the result of an extremely serious event which occurred at approximately 06:45 this morning at Weston Super Mare station. Before I continue I'd like you to rest assured that no physical harm came to me but it so nearly could have done.

What happened was this; for the first time in a while I decided to cycle to the station and take my bicycle on the train with me. Well, as we heard the distant rumble of the twin Mayback engines that announced that our journey was shortly to begin, I was informed by a member of staff that I wouldn't be permitted on board with my cycle as there would be no room for it. You see, the thing is I ride a recumbant bicycle and I feel incensed that us recumbant riders should be discriminated in such a mean spirited fashion.

So, when the train came to a standstill I opened the door and put the front wheel of my cycle onto the step and refused to move. Ok, I got a bit of stick for it as I was effectively holding up the train but I had no idea the travelling British public were so self obsessed. As I argued with the train staff I was maybe expecting some support from my fellow travellers but all I got was abuse. This ultimately culminated in a slow hand clap at which point the transport police arrived and physically removed my cycle.

I've had to take a day off as a result of this outrage and I'm currently looking at ways in which I may be able to get some compensation. I recall there were some posters on here who had raised the issue of cycles on trains some time ago. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
