It just took me about three goes to get it right on the dev server - I don't think they thought that bit through very well
There's a checkbox which, in their infinite wisdom, they've positioned over the avatar of the person making the request. If you select that before the "Save Changes" button (or, if you only have the one, use the "Select all" checkbox at the top) then it should work.
I'll redesign that bit; it looks like they built it in the expectation of avatars not being shown, then decided to add the avatars in and show them by default, and didn't bother testing it - it shows the same brokenness on the default theme, so it isn't just a CUK thing.
