Azania
Well is you want a more African name Azania seems to have been the one of choice as it was proposed in the 50s as the new name for South Africa by Kwame Nkrumah
During the demise of apartheid, we also had APLA (Azanian peoples liberation army), who would have been happy to debate with you regarding the name of SA, if they didnt feel like burning you to death with a tyre and petrol.
When China had relations with RSA during apartheid they referred to RSA as Azania IIRC

The nine provinces of SA are roughly based on the historical territories of the original tribal inhabitants of those areas. There is probably as much chance of getting them all to agree on name with significance to african nationals as you have of getting all the member of the EU to agree on calling Europe something other than Europe. It's a nice, safe, geographic description that every one can more or less agree on.
