There are good and bad things about both systems Dodgy.

One of the good things over here is how there are teaching assistants in just about every class in this country.

Bad thing is how SATS and GCSE are still being carried out inspite of the fact that the majority of heads have told Ruthy the tests are crap.

While the school will receive a rating between 1 (being worst performing) and 10 (highest performing) the ratings are used by the Government to determine which school needs the most help. Tables certainly arent published like they are here.

Having said that, kiwis understand that a decile 1 school can actually still be a very good school.

There are so many things that go in to making a school "good" that its a travesty to base how good a school is purely on how the kids did in a bunch of meaningless exams!

Sorry, they could not have tables for cleanliness or sportiness as they've sacked all the cleaners and sold off all the playing fields.

Exams are not meaningless, and they are the most popular way of measuring a school.

If enough people's priority for a school were friendliness, sportiness or cleanliness, that information will be unearthed and turned into a table too. Then we'd have people complaining about that.

There is nothing we can do about tables, other than try and hide the figures.

Clean and tidy

Some of the reasons I chose the school my kids go to were a friendly receptionist and clean classrooms. Not been proved wrong yet. And yes Mrs Goof those tables are tiny.
