Schools are rated by the education board (similar to oftstead reports) and the ratings take in more than mere exam results.
While the school will receive a rating between 1 (being worst performing) and 10 (highest performing) the ratings are used by the Government to determine which school needs the most help. Tables certainly arent published like they are here.
Having said that, kiwis understand that a decile 1 school can actually still be a very good school.

So do you reckon the system in NZ is better than it is here?

There are so many things that go in to making a school "good" that its a travesty to base how good a school is purely on how the kids did in a bunch of meaningless exams!

Exams are not meaningless, and they are the most popular way of measuring a school.
If enough people's priority for a school were friendliness, sportiness or cleanliness, that information will be unearthed and turned into a table too. Then we'd have people complaining about that.
There is nothing we can do about tables, other than try and hide the figures.
Some of the reasons I chose the school my kids go to were a friendly receptionist and clean classrooms. Not been proved wrong yet. And yes Mrs Goof those tables are tiny.
Our local school has only around 250 kids. Comparing it to a school that has that many in each year is pointless.

Don't worry, Milan, mum's the word. There's room for both of us in the second hand school furniture market.
I've heard there's a guy with a shop in Bracknell who might be in the market for some if the price is right and the brass inkwell covers are still in place.
