Shopping: avoid the places on Times Square / 5th avenue.

    Check out B and H - bhphotovideo.com on 35th / 9th Ave - closed saturdays, you´ll see why if you go.

    Broadway

Buy tickets from ticketmaster in Times Square, see a Broadway show well worth it.

Empire state - much recommended! SOL also. Posh McDonalds with Piano in Wall Street for a cuppa is recommended - you can also do a Gordon Gecko!

Macys is good also. They do bus Tours during the day in Grehound buses - book at the bus station or in hotel.
    2 days is too short.

Watch out for Americans...There's a lot of them about there and they're very weird. Best to stay in your hotel room and only order room service as the staff is liable to be non-American. Same goes for if you really have to go out, like between airport and hotel, use a taxi as they're all non-Americans as well.

A weekend is a bit short but deffo do the Statue and ESB. Ellis Island is excellent but you need a few hours to do it justice. If you want to see a show Google for Broadway discounts and there's loads of discount codes out there.

Subway is a great way to get around, take the camera for some night shots of Times Square. 5th Avenue is good for shopping but to be honest the prices aren't a massive amount cheaper - you tend to win out on the exchange rate more than anything.

    Have a great time!

Had a weekend there not long ago. Stayed at the Ameritania. They had an organised evening tour which was very good value. Went up the Empire State Building, down to greenwich park etc. On the Staten Island Ferry. Wall Street etc.

Did the Helicopter trip round the Statue of Liberty. Visited the Intrepid Air & Space Museum.

Had a wander round Central Park - Sunday Lunchtime. Did some shopping.

Had breakfast at a deli in Times Square. Lost a game of chess. Saw someone get mugged. Saw the mugger being chased by what looked like keystone cops...

    Loads to do!

Be very careful if you buy any electronic goodies in or around timesquare.

started a topic The Big Apple

    The Big Apple

Taking Mrs Jason986 to New York in February. Never been before and we're only going for a weekend which isn't really long enough but I'm in the middle of a contract. Any suggestions on things to do? We're staying in the Sofitel which I believe is well placed for Broadway and shopping etc.

Any suggestions for a nice place to go for an evening meal?

Quite fancy a helicopter ride. Best place to go shopping - was hoping to pick up the Bose Ipod speaker system cheaper over there?

    Jason

Working...
