Should Party Leaders Who Fail Resign?

Cameron told the party that they needed to change in order for him to be able to win. The party (cosmetically, at least) changed, but he failed to deliver that win. [Interesting article / story / blog post thingy on the Spectator website which makes the same point]. 64% of the voting public do not agree with Cameron, that's hardly a convincing mandate for governance.

Brown actually delivered what was expected of him.

Clegg delivered less than was expected, so by some criteria should also go.

If you believe that, having failed to secure a convincing victory, Gordon Brown should step down, shouldn't you also believe that, having failed to secure a convincing victory, David Cameron should step down?

The Tories have gained almost 100 seats and Labour have lost almost that number. Only one winner there, and yes the loser should resign...if he had any moral fibre. If you think they should both step down then you ought to include Clegg in that as well. But no doubt he and Brown will get their heads together to try and form an "alliance of the dispossessed".

I am quite happy to see Gordon Brown remain as leader of the Labour Party but I think he should step down as Prime Minister.
