    Ooh.

I see from the candidates in my old constituency that George Galloway has decamped from neighbouring Bethnal Green and is standing in Poplar. He won't win but he will split the Labour vote and hand the seat over to the Conservatives as has happened in the local council elections.

I wish I had registered to vote now just so that I could have voted against him.

There are twenty-two constituencies that aren't doing their counts on Thursday night, and one whose polling date has been pushed back to May 27th after the death of a candidate. If things are tight then it may not be worth staying up, as the final result won't be known until some time on Friday anyway.

For some reason there is usually a race in the north-east to be the first to declare the result so you should get the results from Sunderland before 11pm but you wouldn't normally expect to get a result for the election as a whole evident much before 5am the next day.

This time I think it will take much longer since the result will be closer than in recent years so you might end up hanging around waiting for the ballot box from some remote Scottish region to be counted before it is known which is the largest party in Parliament.

After that, you will get the political negotiations around forming a minority government which could take days so it could be fascinating to stay up and watch and also completely pointless.

Are they? This topic is worthy of a phd thesis on its own.

What were the results of the one posted on Twitter recently? Not a poll as such, just the real thing.

Oh yes - that's why they ask sacked permies to fill in questionnaires...

I'm heading for Spain in the early hours of Friday which means early to bed Thursday. Hopefully I'll not find out the result for a week at least.

I love election night me. Its great tv.

But, this'll be the first election night in years that I'll have to miss. Got to get up at 5.30 in the morning so its off to bed no later than 10.45.

The polls don't close until 10pm; I can't imagine we're going to hear a definitive result in the early hours.

Are there any senior Labour politicians likely to lose their seat? In 1997 I stayed up long enough to see Portillo's face as he lost , and then went to bed happy.
Well I always thought Portillo was the leader that the Tories needed in this their wilderness years, but I admit he was a hard liner at the time.

I wouldn't mind seeing the smile wiped of slimey Balls face, but it don't really make that much difference.

I'd never go that far for any election.

I'll just listen till around 11 pm and catch the rest next day.

A Labour - Liberal coalition is looking like a sure thing anyway.

We will know the 'result' early Friday, but quite what the result will mean is another matter. I don't expect anyone will be visiting Buckingham Palace early Friday morning. That trip will have to wait until all the recounts are done and some agreement is thrashed out.
