Had a phone interview for a role in mainland Europe today, and it went pretty well. 6month contract, good rates, so starting to look at how to actually do the job!

Anybody got any advice about stopping in Europe during the week, flying home at the weekend.

Hotels? Professional rooms? Hostels? Brothels? Where am I best looking for accomodation?

Do you want to be right in the middle of the city? If so, expect to pay upwards of 500 just for a room in a shared house. The locals won't take you seriously until you are actually based in the country - rentals in Amsterdam can go within hours, if they are ever advertised at all (the best priced/best placed ones are usually sorted out 'in family' because a sister of a friend of a colleague works for an agency).

Plenty of estate agents (makelaars) will happily rent €1500+ rabbit hutches - owned by dutchies to expats who don't understand all the rules (eg: they can only charge a specific rent for places under a certain square footage). www.funda.nl -> Te Huur -> Amsterdam shows all current estate agent offerings.

The cheapest areas to rent are north of the city, you get a lot more for your money there. If you're happy to live in the suburbs, Almere is a good bet. Amstelveen is very expensive, as is Haarlem. Avoid Bijlmer - nice to visit the ArenA area, but don't wander past the railway station after dark.

I can't recommend hotels sorry - I stayed in one near the airport for a few days.
