I am not checking if your payments are in order, I am just saying it takes so bloody much time to deal with them - I want to bloody pay tax and it's ******** impossible to get live person on business rates phone line. I mean WTF, any sales related line should respond straight away - councils should not be collecting the money.

Actually he didn't. As the Appeal Court says the 91 day rule is:

important only to establish whether non-resident status, once acquired, has been lost
I suggest you try and read into the case.

They decided that he had never cut his ties with Berkshire where he had grown up, or with Oxfordshire, where he still owns a mansion on a 27-acre estate near Henley and which the judges said was still his chief residence.
They're suggesting he didn't really cut his ties with the UK, so rather than emigrate he just hopped about for a bit.

The principle is general: you do not need to tell them where you are going just because you are going there, but particular actions or circumstances may require that you do. For example if you have a UK driving licence then it must be up to date with an address in the UK at which you can always be contacted.

I told the council I'd left and signed into the council in Holland. That's not HMRC.

Indeed, you are free to do as you wish. If you want to leave the country and stop paying tax, tell the tax man otherwise he might not agree you left in 33 years time.

I'm pretty sure that form didn't exist in 1976 though...
