But who gets the tax back from the dispenstion on the allowances?
As was mentioned before, the Indian IT companies get dispensation from HMRC (e.g. under the temporary workplace rules) so that very little income tax and NI is paid.
I have asked some TCS ICTs and a Mastek ICT what they got paid and what it says on their visas. It looked like the tax deduction from the dispensation was not passed on to the worker.
e.g. visa says £35k, employee gets £21k allowance in UK (and £6k Indian salary)
This seemed strange, but I just noticed this link posted on a Computer Weekly blog yesterday:
http://www.lieffcabraser.com/lawsuitagainsttata.htm
(It was the 8th post on http://www.computerweekly.com/blogs/....html#comments)
Could it be true that TCS claims tax back for their employees and keeps it?
Do the others do it as well?
Anyone know any ex-TCSers who could confirm this?

Given how quickly Haiti has fallen off the news agenda, I wonder if anyone gives a toss about anything anymore.

We all know it's happening but if we don't have demonstrable evidence of it, we're just mictuarating in the wind. Don't forget HMG wants to pretend the problem doesn't exist so you need something they can't deny.
And that is exactly what has happened, and why they are looking for documentary, auditable evidence. They have some (along with a large pile of other evidence that don't meet that requirement) but every little bit helps. That Joiner's Kit reported earlier, for example, would help blow the whole thing open, but only if they get the hard copy.
It's also been flagged to the Press on several occasions. For some reason - perhaps because we're the privileged few, in their eyes, or becuase journos are too dim to understand the problem - it's not been taken up by anyone that matters. Go figure.
That said, if someone wants to set up a dedicated group to tackle this issue then go right ahead. But they will hit the same barriers.
You are barking up the wrong tree on this.

I flagged ICT abuse up to my MP who was sympathetic and wrote to 'the minister in charge'. He got a letter back from the minister in which, amongst all the other guff, said they wouldn't be looking at it until they got re-elected.
So looks like it will all be sorted out soon then
