Yeah great, then perhaps ALL my channels will be XTreme CCTV town centre punchups.

Edit: Or the radio equivalent, you ever heard a CCTV punchup in audio? Not nice.

    Dabs

Sorry, I thought that this thread was about those bloody little flat fish, all full of bones & sand & stuff and no culinary value whatsoever. They do deserve to die.

Anyway back on topic- the big hurdle for DAB is that now everyone gets all of those radio channels for free via Freeview. This coupled with the fact that the sound reproduction capabilities of everyones TV is considerably better than the traditional radio has ever been.

Therefore the DAB system has been superseded by lower cost and just about adequate technology.

Oh and that most people these days have an iPod stuck in their ears all day and cant hear a DAB radio anyway.

It is a bit of a shame though, 10-15 years earlier and it may have been a hit.

It raises the game all round.

Have you tried living somewhere that has no equivalent? Where all programming is commercially driven?

I don't watch much TV any more.

Yeah. Classic FM / BBC Radio 7 helped me a lot when I was in hospital about a year ago.

The DRWG report was typical of what happens when a government looks into technology: by the time the committee has trundled through its processes and finally got something down on paper, technology has moved on in ways that render its findings redundant

Well, the BBC didn't help by announcing (in 2008 I think, and rather quietly) that DAB would be phased out in favour of DAB+ by 2009 or 10. While still running all those ads to get people to buy DAB radios (not forward compatible). Then just when the message sank in that you didn't want to buy a DAB radio because it would be useless in a year or so, they decided not to phase out DAB for the moment. But of course the market and the manufacturers have reacted in the meantime.

No it isn't! I had a DAB stereo in my last car but broke the facia about a month before I flogged the car - I'd had it for 3 years. The first thing I did when I got my new one was to buy a new DAB stereo for it - 2 years ago. I like it because I can't stand the same bland music played on all the radio stations and listen to Planet Rock and Asolute (Virgin) on DAB.

DAB to become the main digital radio platform -- Internet radio to be killed off at birth

Not at that bit rate it ain't.
It is if they want to transmit it that way. But if they cut the bitrates to squeeze in more stations on the same multiplex, then they are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

They could have more multiplexes, of course. That would cost money, though.
