I'd emailed 'em to complain yesterday when fuming...the manager of the section just called me to apologise and ask if anything they could do etc as he wouldn't want me to not use their services or not to recommend them.
While trying not to rant I just said perhaps ask the guy in question not to be so personal in future, and that he didn't really seem to get it.
He made the valid point that just because one person makes a mistake it's not really a reflection of the company as a whole. Which is true, guess we've all got stories to tell about great agencies that others can't stand. He was professional about it, so yes, I'd use that agency, just not the guy I spoke to.
Off to get a life now.

I was out of IT for almost 3 years. To get back I took a permie role and stuck it for a year or so then went back into contracting.
As long as you have a plausible reason to be out its not too big a deal.

A few years back, I hired a guy with a 2 year gap (via an agency). Got him cheap, because he'd have to spend time getting back up to speed. He was great.
The agent you were talking to is a viscious nasty lying piece of a cancerous oozing anal polyp.
Unlike our friend dodgy, of course.

" wasn't suitable due to the time you've had off..you should consider applying for a more junior position, and then working your way back up as it's such a fast-moving industry". He then finished it off with "it'll be a long, hard climb back-up".

It's a load of bollocks, though admittedly it might be the client's bollocks rather than the agent's. And "fast-moving"? Give me a break, if only it were.
What, really, do you think is the chance that this agent will know the first thing about your area, to be able to judge whether it is fast-paced or not?
In general, do not let one agent get you down. In fact, do not let any number of them get you down. The agent who will get you a contract will not give you this bulltulip. That's the agent you are interested in.
Specifically, it doesn't matter squat if you've had a break. I've had a couple of long breaks and nobody has even asked about them, except one who thought the break I was just returning from was a good thing to have done.Last edited by Tarquin Farquhar; 28 January 2010, 07:38.
