I worked at a place in the 80s that had a smoking room. It was equipped with decent sized desks so that you could spread out your compiler listings and do constructive work (no carping from non-smokers about you skiving while having a fag). It also suffered from inadequate ventilation, but the idea was sound.

The last few places I have worked have had a coffee/smoking area and it's quite a good way of meeting folks you wouldn't normally come into contact with - networking at work, if you like.

Like in the USA? Although not banned per se, you can still lose your job for smoking at home. See some states want to ban smoking in certain outside areas. When I was last in NY there were signs on buildings stating not to smoke within a certain distance of the building which meant I ended up standing in the middle of the road.

Would be good if pubs could do this sort of thing, assuming they've got the room to do it of course.
You wait until they ban smoking in the home.

If you look closely you'll see they're made by a British company.

Not that I spend much time in them you understand.

On Air France, they have (or at least had last time I went long haul with them) "Le Coin Fumeur" at the back of the plane where
you can stand and have a fag. You are in a little curtained off area & there's an extractor so the rest of the passengers don't get bothered by your smoke. Last time, when I came back from Brazil on AF, they were pouring out glasses of wine for you to enjoy with your smoke. Very civilised.

That would allow far too much recognition of personal freedom
