According to the HMRC guidance the BR code can require an employer to calculate tax even when no income has been paid by them. Fortunately, the stupid online system won't allow it.
-
There's another code D0 IRCC if you have already hit 40% in your first job.

BR Tax code - yikes
the Sister in Law semi retired five years ago and got her tax allowance applied to her pension.
She did some agency work for the NHS , and the agency applied her tax allowance to her earnings.
She now has to work ten more hours a week to pay back the tax she owes which is not much fun for a 60 yo.
So beware, the second income stream should have a code of BR (Basic rate) if i understand it correctly.
