Buy one in a pot. One that's grown in the pot with roots and not just stuck in any old plant pot. Then water it.
When Christmas is over take it outside and keep until next year.

Can you isolate, i.e. turn off, that radiator without affecting the heating in that room too much. On a side note. If you want some real fun after christmas take your tree in the garden and set fire to it. Tip: you need a fair bit of room.

Keep the tree as far away as possible. Mine goes in the (unheated) conservatory.

Get a plastic tree, some of them look pretty good these days (and even M&S sell them)
A lot less hassle plus you can keep it in the loft till next year
