Ah. How the contracting world has changed. 30 quid hotels. Same as what students on a budget used to go for. That really tells you how much the contracting world has changed.

If you asked the same question 10 years ago contractors would not accomodate for anything less than this:

book the night before you go on lastminute.com secret hotels. I usually stay in London 5* for approx £100. London has millions o hotels, so never a problem getting a late deal.

Handy for the Northumberland Arms, I see:

After some info / advice from anybody who has used hotels / overnight accommodation in London.

I have booked myself onto a 2 day training course in London early next year and when making the booking i asked if they could provide details of hotels relatively close to the venue which they did. However, the details they sent me are of hotels charging from £107 per night up to £160.00 per night for essentially B&B. Now i dont mind paying for accommodation but £100+ per night for B&B!!! The closest underground station to the venue is Angel.

So, could anybody recommend a hotel / B&B etc which is reasonably priced and will be close enough so as to not require a bit of a hike to get to the venue / Angel underground station.

    Much appreciated

    Alan
    I use http://www.travelocity.co.uk/
Select Hotels and put in your dates, when the list returns you can filter on Landmarks.
I look at Top Secret hotels, usually half price.
I like the Grange Hotels group

I could not resist and looked (I found them)

Then I realised that I was up that way about three weeks ago so see someone that had come over to London and their firm had put them up in one of those places.

    HE WAS

I'd only just caught him as he had already checked himself out and was off to somewhere else. I think his two underlings had to remain there though.

Google must be getting paranoid. The left hand door has an English Tourist Board plaque beside it. The red rose has been recognised as a human face and smudged.

    As you want specific recommendations...

I spent nearly a year in the Premier Inn at Edgware when working close to Leicester Square. I think it's around £80 a night these days. By taking a Bank branch train (Edgware is one of the terminuses of the Northern Line) you can travel to Angel in about forty-five minutes, and it's handy for the M1 if you need that when the time comes to flee.

Closer is the Premier Inn at Euston where I've stayed a couple of times for conferences; probably around £100. You can walk up to Angel in about fifteen minutes. I've never stayed at the St Pancras one, although I believe it's about twenty quid a night more expensive despite only being eight minutes walk away from the Euston one.

A fair bit cheaper is this place, less than ten minutes walk to Angel and very handy indeed for Kings Cross/St Pancras. I stayed there once a couple of years ago, and although the rooms are tiny it was fine for two nights. You could try phoning them rather than booking online as they own three or four hotels on that street, and can probably fit you in one of them. FWIW, a friend of mine stayed there every week for about a year when on a contract in London a while back, and he's a fussy beggar so they must be doing something right

    from £31 per night
It's not brilliant but its recently refurbished, they seem to have got most of the furniture from ikea

Edit: you'll probably want to phone the hotel directly to make the booking, don't trust the websites which say they are fully booked

    Many thanks...

    for all the responses.

I was hoping that somebody could name a particular hotel / B&B that they have personally used and could therefore recommend.

Have already looked at Laterooms.com and the Premier Inn web sites and will probably go with something on there.

    Regards

    Alan

I used lastminute last time I was in London, but still didn't get much cheapness. Also, check for reviews on tripadvisor so you don't end up in a tuliphole like this one.
