I knew a busker once who played violin, not the same I know, but they said by having a good pitch at the right time they could do £40/hr and this was around 10 years ago.

you must be joking. Lack of food is hardly a problem for professional beggers, and the kids ? they are a valuable investment, it's not the Thames for them, it's a lucrative pitch near Camden underground station with their very own bedraggled puppyOriginally posted by RichardCranium View Post
What happens to these babies when they become a burden that needs feeding? Are they thrown in the Thames or trained to pickpocket? That is the reality of begging. That's where we're headed if it is not stopped.

Your compassion does you credit ma'am.Originally posted by cailin maith View PostLoads of them doing it in Ireland too - it's hard not to feel sorry for them but surely life can't have been worse for them back in Romania or wherever. The poor babies getting handed round a group of women and used as a tool to beg, it's horrible.
Dickens wrote some stories about what happens in such cultures to highlight their plight to the general public. It is horrible indeed. We are only seeing the public face of it; what is going on that we cannot see?

No need to give them any money and I never said to do so.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostAnd if you give them money you make it profitable for those forcing them into it.
Just don't treat them like scum

That also occurs on the A40. Filthy hags holding babies in one hand and the other held out for money; often it is clear the babies cannot be theirs.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostOut here in Geneva they have some who beg at the side of the road near where I work. They literally wander up and down the traffic queue and tap on the drivers window looking for cash. They don't even bother with the whole window washing routine.

If the gangs know their victims will be immediately picked up and thoroughly interviewed as to where they came from, what they are up to, why, and who for then they will pack it in.Originally posted by Spacecadet View PostGenerally, if someone is being forced into it by a criminal gang then they don't have a choice

I also can't see the point of what they do and why they expect payment. My car comes equipped with wipers and a mechanism for spraying clean water and soap onto the windscreen. I don't need some toothless hag rubbing her dirty sponge over the window for a quid.

So the tart does a soapy little heart on the windscreen while her mate sticks up her middle finger....
I've seen that video, it's a classic.
